This program was designed for those students who have an especially strong passion for solar energy technology and seek a comprehensive in-depth education of the solar industry. Additionally, enrollees of this program will enjoy a significant discount in tuition pricing for our classes.

Solar Technician Certificate Program students will be exposed to the full theoretical and hands-on training included in our core solar PV and solar thermal workshops. Additionally, students will also be exposed to insider knowledge during our sales and marketing course.

COURSE <br/> INFORMATION

Course Structure

Each day begins with breakfast being served at 7:30 a.m. followed by training that begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. The morning session is 4 hours with a lunch break from noon to 12:30 p.m. The afternoon session continues for 4 hours,ending at 5:00 p.m. Each day there are 8 hours of instruction, totaling 88 hours of professional training over the 12-day course. This program is 2 weeks long. The first week starts on a Monday and is spent on the Solar PV Workshop. This course concludes on a Friday and at the end of the day students are eligible and have the option to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level Solar PV Exam.* The next morning on Saturday, students will take the Solar Sales Seminar. Sunday is an off day and the program will resume the following monday when students start the Solar Thermal Workshop. This course concludes on the following Friday, after which students are eligible and have the option to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level Solar Thermal Exam*.

*Please note that there is an additional fee of $170 to sit for a NABCEP Entry Level Solar PV Exam and NABCEP Entry Level Solar Thermal Exam each.

What You Will Learn

Students attending this course can expect to learn about the following topics in the Solar PV Hands-On Workshop:
  • Identify major scientific contributions to photovoltaic technology
  • Understand how the industry is changing and who the major players are
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic photovoltaic principles and applications
  • Explain basic electrical phenomena
  • Facilitation of a thorough site assessment
  • Understand principles of system and wire sizing
  • Introduction to utility interconnection process
  • Develop an in depth understanding of PV system design process
  • Uphold strict accordance to professional ethics in the solar PV trade
  • Design a residential roof mounted, grid tied PV system
  • Conduct a thorough site assessment
  • Size a PV system to a customer’s unique needs and desires
  • Be introduced to the fundamentals of battery based and bimodal distributed energy generation systems
  • Complete the following installations:
  • Residential roof mount
  • Ground mounted array
  • Pole mounted array with microinverters
  • Commercial ballasted system
  • Standing seem, non-penetrating roof mount
  • tenK solar system with reflection panels
  Students attending this course can expect to learn about the following topics in the Solar Thermal Hands-On Workshop:
  • Collector orientation, design, and function
  • Solar thermal applications (pool, space, and water heating)
  • Open and closed loop systems
  • Service and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on installation labs (flush mount and rail mount)
  • Pump and tank selection and configuration
  • Residential and commercial attachments

Prerequisites

Basics math skills; familiarity with equations, fractions and algebra. Basic Reading Comprehension. Basic computer skills. Ability to safely lift 50 lbs; be comfortable with heights above six feet. Knowledge of basic plumbing a plus.

Regulations & Requirements by State

Please note that each state has different agencies, laws, and regulations that govern student eligibility to attend our courses. Students must make sure that they meet all requirements outlined by respective Departments of Education to be able to attend our courses and that they follow all guidelines and requirements. There currently are no restrictions to attending courses at our campus in Newark, New Jersey. For more information on the course location you are interested in, please review the information below:
States Student Qualifications
California Courses are open to the public, including all entry level job seekers.
Maryland Courses are for continuing education purposes only. Enrollment is restricted to electricians and contractors who are affiliated with United Electric Supply. The program is insufficient in length and content to qualify as entry level occupational training. Students must sign documents indicating that the enrollment restrictions have been met.
Massachuesetts Students must be associates with, register, and pay through our partner NorthEast Electrical Supply. No students may pay Infinite Solar for the course directly. Courses are currently restricted to professionals seeking continuing education or business to business training.
New Jersey Courses have been fully approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and are open to the public, including entry level job seekers.
Pennsylvania Courses are currently restricted to professionals seeking continuing education or business to business training.
